Volunteers Work to Complete Chintsa Creche

It's the start of the Summer Season here in Chintsa and our first group of International Student Volunteers arrived early in December. These groups of volunteers join us for 2 weeks and work on high impact projects in the Chintsa community.

The first group of the year had a huge challenge with 11 volunteers and only 2 weeks to get the new Chintsa creche prepared for school to begin in the new term and ensure that it is ready to be handed over to the village by the 7th Jan 2013!

The creche was started by last seasons ISV volunteer groups, the "shell" was in place and it was the responsibility of this group to try to complete the inside of the creche building, and the fencing around the creche.

With extremely hard work this first group managed to make huge progress; maintaining the fencing at the front of the creche, building retaining walls and putting up posts for the new stretches of fencing, painting the inside and outside of the creche building (including a blackboard and wallpaper border!), completing one and building two new cubby hole storage spaces, varnishing them and fixing them to the walls. Not only is the inside of the creche looking almost ready for the kids but the outside is coming together as a safe space for them to be - the volunteers even began laying out the flower beds in the garden and started preparing the space for a small jungle gym for Chintsa's little learners.

What an amazing effort and real achievements made by this awesome group of volunteers! Look out for pictures from our next group who arrived on the 10th and will be putting the final touches into the inside of the creche and completing the jungle gym.
